The Marshfield Rams got their 2015 season underway in unique style, taking a lengthy road trip to Ridgewood, New Jersey to take on the Maroons of Ridgewood High School.

While the trip was a major success overall, the outlook was concerning just before game time, as the Rams had spent 8 hours on a bus trip to the hotel, thanks in large part to a multi-hour gridlock (due to an accident that closed 2 of 3 lanes) on the way to the George Washington Bridge in New York City.

After checking into the hotel, the Rams had less than an hour to prepare for the trip over to the stadium for the game.

From the opening kickoff, the Jersey boys were strong and physical, leading to a stalemate for most of the first half. Marshfield finally broke through in the second quarter, thanks to a Jack Masterson touchdown plunge from a yard out, giving the Rams a 6-0 lead.

The Maroons had a chance to pull even, and possibly take the lead, in the closing seconds of the half, but the Marshfield defense held, and a Ridgewood field goal attempt from 22 yards out was missed, so the 6-0 edge for the Rams stood as the teams went to the locker rooms at halftime.

Marshfield came inches from calamity to open the third quarter, as an unintentional squib kick was nearly recovered by the Maroons for what could have been a potential momentum swing, but the Ridgewood player was out of bounds as he corralled the ball, allowing the Rams to retain possession in strong field position.

It took Marshfield just 3 plays to charge down the field and score, as Masterson rushed for another touchdown. Danny Dalton caught a pass from Masterson for the 2-point conversion, putting the Rams up 14-0.

Marshfield's offensive burst effectively iced the outcome of the game on the next two drives, as the Rams capped off successive possessions with rushing touchdowns from Chris Lunn and Masterson, who scored his 3rd TD of the night, helping the Rams run away to a 29-0 lead.

The defensive effort from the Rams was also noteworthy all night long, as Freddy Allen, Kyle Meeken, Matt Armstrong, Sean Burger, and Kerry Flynn were among those who led the way in stifling the Maroons' attack.

Ridgewood was finally able to avoid the shutout on the final play of the game, leading to the final tally of 29-7 in favor of Marshfield.

The Rams will be back in action Friday night for their home opener as they host Hockomock power Stoughton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at James G. Anderson field. Go Rams!
