Rams Face Unique Challenge on Way to Win at Nauset

A perfect storm of factors combined to create a bus trip nobody involved will ever forget. The Marshfield Rams rolled off campus just after 3:30 on their way to play Nauset on the road; they finally pulled into the Warriors' parking lot just after 7:00.

Implausible as the 3.5 hour drive time may seem, it was caused by heavy Cape traffic on a Friday, combined with an ill-advised decision to try to circumvent it via the other bridge, and topped off with a navigational error that took the team dozens of miles off course on the wrong part of Cape Cod.

Nevertheless, the team finally arrived, and even though kickoff had to be delayed until 7:30, the game finally got underway.

The Rams played very much at times like they'd been on a bus for 3+ hours, as they repeatedly drove into Nauset territory and failed to come up with any points.

Danny Dalton opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 4-yard touchdown grab from Jack Masterson.

The Warriors answered with a scoring drive of their own, and the first frame finished with a 7-7 deadlock.

Masterson scored the only touchdown of the second quarter on a TD run from 14 yards out, giving the Rams a 13-7 lead at halftime.

The score remained 13-7 all the way into the 4th quarter, when Marshfield finally managed to take full command with a pair of quick touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

Masterson punched the first score in from a yard out to put the Rams up 19-7. Fred Allen intercepted a Nauset pass on the following drive to set up a quick 10-yard TD run by Frank Catanoso, bringing the score to its final tally, 25-7.

Marshfield was able to withstand their multiple empty drives thanks to the 4 interceptions they were able to grab from Nauset. The picks were reeled in by Allen, Troy Rodrigues, Adam McNamara, and Bob McCarthy.

Thankfully, the drive home was a significantly shorter ride.

Marshfield will be back in action Friday night for their homecoming game against Sandwich. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 at James G. Anderson Field. Go Rams!
