Marshfield Outlasts B-R, Improves to 3-1

To nobody's surprise, Friday night's game between Bridgewater-Raynham and host Marshfield was a physical battle where points were at a premium, considering the stingy defenses in play for both squads.

In the end, Marshfield won the turnover battle (5-3) and ultimately the game thanks to a 20-7 final score.

After trading possessions through most of the first quarter, the Rams finally capitalized by scoring two touchdowns in the final 58 seconds of the opening frame. The sequence began with Jack Masterson finishing off a drive with a 9 yard TD run. On the ensuing B-R possession, the Trojans lost a fumble in the backfield, which was quickly scooped up by Marshfield defensive end Sean Burger (who corralled another B-R fumble later in the game).

On the very next play from scrimmage, Frank Catanoso took a sweep 31 yards to the end zone, giving Marshfield a 13-0 lead.

The next two quarters were a stalemate, with neither team able to manufacture points, but B-R finally found paydirt with 6:49 remaining in the 4th quarter, finishing off a 10-play, 4-minute drive with a touchdown run from 3 yards out.

The Rams took the ball back clinging to a 6 point lead, but they executed a patient, methodical drive down the field, chewing up 5:02 off the clock on a 14-play drive that finished with a 1 yard touchdown run by Jacob Maher, giving Marshfield a two-possession lead again with just 1:29 remaining.

Marshfield will hit the road next week as they travel to Falmouth to take on the Clippers. Kickoff will be at 7p.m. at Guv Fuller Field. Go Rams!
