The 2014 Marshfield Rams got their first win of the season in their home opener against Barnstable, downing the Raiders by a score of 31-12.

The win avenged a pair of Marshfield losses at Barnstable in 2013, once in the regular season, and again in the playoffs.

With the victory, the Rams are 1-1 after a tough, last-second loss at BC High to open the 2014 campaign.

Marshfield racked up 256 yards on the ground against the Raiders, led by senior running back Jacob Maher, who tallied 82 yards on 11 carries, one of which he punched in for a touchdown.

Other rushing touchdowns were scored by junior quarterback Jack Masterson, sophomore tailback Neal Parry, and senior halfback Frank Catanoso.

Masterson had a strong game through the air, completing 14 of 19 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, thanks to a connection in the end zone with junior wideout Jason Darcy. It was the second game in a row that the Masterson-to-Darcy connection found paydirt, as they scored on a 40-yard strike in the opening game at BC High.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Marshfield linebackers led the way, spearheaded by Danny Dalton (7 tackles), Matt Benson (6 tackles), and Bob McCarthy (6 tackles).

The Rams will look to keep rolling strong next week as they get their ACL schedule started with a key home game against an always-tough Dennis-Yarmouth team. Kickoff is scheduled for 7p.m. at James G. Anderson Field. Go Rams!
